Week 2

27AUG12

This is not going well. My knee is sore, both grazed and bruised, and I’m not looking forward to today’s run. On a Bank holiday too! Surprisingly, it goes very well so a half hour well spent. Accompanied by The Charlatans.

I go into today’s 3 miles with new found confidence. Monday’s run felt like a breakthough in terms of ignoring little niggles so I was actually looking forward to it. How wrong I was!! This felt like the day one run where I was completely out of my depth. I checked the pace and incline and everything was okay; just couldn’t fathom why I was finding this so hard. Really cannot remember what music I had on.

Confidence is low again after the last run. To add to my worries, my ankle is tingly and generally feeling odd. I’m really not looking forward to it and consider have a rest day but decide against it. The 30 minutes flies through without a problem; in fact, the pace seemed quite leisurely and at the end I felt like I could go for a lot longer. I start to get ideas that I could up my goal pace back to 8 minutes but I rein myself in. I then discover that the machine I used on Wednesday is stuck on incline level one!! No wonder it was harder. Robbie informs me that I need to be on incline level 1.5 anyway to replicate running on a flat road; not happy. Accompanied by Goldie Lookin Chain.

02SEP12

Today should have been my second long run; 5 miles in 55 minutes. Today is also Saints v Manchester United, for which I have a ticket, so the intention was to get an early start, get the run done and then head off south. Things don’t always work out that way and I simply didn’t get up in time. I’m extremely annoyed with myself for slacking off so early in the programme but not as much as I was at the final whistle. I now need to decide if I move the long run to tomorrow or just write it off altogether and just go with the planned 3 miler. Next weekend I am going up Snowdon so have already moved Week 3’s 6 miler to the Friday so I’ll go with the 3 miler on Monday.
